Nathan Myhrvold est le directeur général et fondateur d'Intellectual Modernist Cuisine: The Art and Science of Cooking Ventures, entreprise dédiée au développement et à l'investissement dans les inventions. Si Myhrvold sait stimuler le potentiel créatif des autres, il est lui-même inventeur avec, à son actif, plus de 250 brevets délivrés ou déposés, dont plusieurs dans le domaine de la technologie alimentaire.
Jusqu'en 1999, il a été directeur technologique chez Microsoft, déterminant les axes de recherche de l'entreprise et supervisant de nombreux projets de technologie avancée. Après avoir travaillé deux ans comme stagiaire au célèbre restaurant français de Seattle, Rover's, Myhrvold a parachevé sa formation culinaire avec le chef Anne Willan à L'École de la Varenne. Il a de plus travaillé comme directeur gastronomique pour Zagat Survey, qui édite les fameux guides Zagat des restaurants. Myhrvold a obtenu des diplômes de mathématiques, géophysique et physique de l'espace à l'UCLA, et des doctorats d'économie mathématiques et de physique théorique à l'Université de Princeton.
