« Château-Grillet... » Qui, s'intéressant au monde du vin, n'a jamais entendu ce nom à la fois
lapidaire et énigmatique ? Mais qui, aussi, a pu mettre des mots et de impressions sur lui ? En
un mot : quel vin est à la fois aussi connu et aussi secret que Château-Grillet ?
Château-Grillet ? Si nous pouvons situer cette propriété et cette appellation au coeur de celle de
Condrieu, il n'en demeure pas moins fort possible que nous n'en sachions pas davantage à son
propos, ignorant peut-être que le Château possède en réalité... sa propre appellation, formant,
à cet égard, l'une des plus petites en superficie de France. Nous aurons peut-être lu aussi que
le vin de Château-Grillet fait partie des cinq plus grands vins blancs de France élus par
Curnonsky, le « Prince des gastronomes. »
Mais au-delà de ces quelques traits, que découvrirons-nous d'autre ?
Château-Grillet ! A travers les pages de ce livre, pénétrons un site essentiel de l'histoire de la
vigne, un lieu d'élection majeur du cépage viognier, source d'un vin mirifique, puisé en un terroir
singulier et ardent. Un vin constamment encensé, qui aura traversé les siècles pour connaître,
depuis quelques années, une véritable renaissance, née d'une viticulture aussi passionnée que
soucieuse de l'écologie de la vigne et de son site.

Grillet. Il a été écrit en bénéficiant de la consultation des archives de Château-Grillet, afin de

constituer ici une source documentaire et chronologique jusque-là entièrement inédite.

«Château-Grillet...» Is there anyone interested in the world of wine who has not heard this short
and sharp, yet enigmatic name? But does anyone have the words or impressions to describe it?
In short: is there any wine as renowned, yet secret, as Château-Grillet?
Château-Grillet? While we can situate this estate and this appellation at the heart of Condrieu, it
is highly likely that this is where our knowledge of it ends, unaware of what the Château actually
represents: an appellation all of its own - one of the smallest in France. We may also have read
that the wine from Château-Grillet was ranked among the five greatest white wines in France by
Curnonsky, the «Prince of the Gastronomes».
But beyond these few snippets of information, what else might we discover?

Château-Grillet! Through the pages of this book, we will enter a fundamental site in the history of
the vines, a birthplace of the viognier grape, the source of a truly remarkable wine hewn from a
singular, fiery terroir. A wine of endless acclaim that has transcended the centuries and, in
recent years, experienced a major renaissance thanks to viticulture that is as passionate as it is
mindful of the ecology of these vines and the site as a whole.

Grillet. It has been written with the help of archive material from Château-Grillet, in order to

produce an unprecedented documentary and chronological source.
